‘Old Vines – New Wines’

Our specialty is creating new wines from the fruit of old vines.

ThumbPrint Wines are produced from grapes grown at ‘Bungaroo’ vineyard in Mudgee. The vineyard was first established in the 1980’s with plantings of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon grape vines.

In the 1990’s Shiraz grape was also planted and in 2008 some of the existing Chardonnay vines were used to graft Vermentino and Savagnin Blanc grape varieties. Blended together, these two grape varieties produce a unique Vintage Sparkling wine.

The Chardonnay has proved versatile and is used to produce wooded and un-wooded wine, white wine blends and a Vintage Sparkling as well as our Late Harvest Desert wine.

The Cabernet Sauvignon vines never fail to produce a good vintage with soft tannins and berry overtones. Cabernet grape is also used to make our Rose.

Our Shiraz grape produces a light to mid-weight wine full of flavour with peppery overtones. Shiraz grape is also used to produce a Vintage Fortified Shiraz and a Vintage Sparkling Red.

In 2016 we produced a new red wine in the style of a ‘Super Tuscan’, blending Sangiovese with our Cabernet. The Sangiovese grape was sourced locally and the resulting wine is now another specialty at our Cellar Door.

ThumbPrint Wines is located on a 25 acre property known as ‘Bungaroo’, just 5 Kms north from the Mudgee Clock Roundabout. We grow grapes, olives, cherries and pomegranates and are home to a family of horses, goats and cats. Luncheon Plates and Picnic Platters can be provided to enjoy in our restaurant area or outdoors under trees on the lawn.
